Can Dogs Eat Kiwi?

Let’s say you’re a health nut and you want to live life as healthily as possible. You restrict yourself to only consuming the healthiest kinds of meat, fruits, and vegetables this world has to offer. One probable type of fruit that may come to mind in consideration of this new approach to a healthy life is the kiwi.

These fruits are abundant; available all year round and one piece of it contains more Vitamin C than a piece of orange and more potassium than a piece of banana, surely there’s a good contender for a type of food for you.

In wanting to promote a healthy diet for yourself, you would want to consider extending the same regimen for your dog.

“Can dogs eat kiwi?” You ask yourself.

The short answer is if you’re already snacking on a kiwi yourself, it’s perfectly safe to share a piece with your pet dog.

To tackle this question further, we must delve int

o the nutritional benefits and contents of kiwi to have an educated answer, as well as any concerns before you consider doing so.

What’s Up With Kiwi? Should it Be on the “Dog Can’t Eat kiwi”?

Kiwi is safe for dogs and contains healthy doses of fiber, Vitamin C, and Potassium. It also contains flavonoids and carotenoids, which are great antioxidants. They protect against cancer, help cell rejuvenation, and strengthen the immune system.

A few things that you should concern yourself about first is that due to the relatively small size of a k, you should never feed your pet a whole piece of kiwi. If you have a small breed as a pet such as a Chihuahua, it would not be able to get a whole piece of kiwi down its mouth, but a larger breed such as a Golden Retriever might be able to swallow it in one gulp.

If that happens, the piece of fruit might get stuck in your dog’s throat and block its airways.

To avoid such a potentially hazardous situation, you must cut up the into smaller, bite-sized pieces or slices and feed your dog a couple of pieces a little bit at a time.

Kiwis can also be refrigerated to retain freshness when you intend to save some for other days to feed your pet. Just make sure to properly store them.

Before feeding some kiwis to your pet, you have to do some steps to check whether or not the  in question has already spoiled and gone bad.

Use your finger to press on the pulp of the kiwi. If it is dry, most likely the kiwi is already rotten. If it is juicy and soft to the touch, chances are the kiwi is still safe to feed to your dog, as long as there are no foul odors and the presence of mold anywhere on the kw

An Introduction To  Can Kiwi – Dog Edition

Much like anything new or foreign for most pets, they are not as easily receptive nor accepting when being introduced to something else beyond the usual, be it food, a new bed, a different dog plate, or even a new dog as a member of the family.

This defensive mechanism often stems from their instinctively territorial mannerisms, and when it comes to kiwi, the same approach must be done when introducing it into their diets and potentially, their whole-food regimen.

You can begin by starting gradually. Cut a small piece of kiwi and place it in your hand. Let your dog sniff it and see how it reacts. It could either devour the entire piece instantaneously or it would grunt and walk away, displeased by the aroma that is not bacon or meat.

If the latter is how your dog behaves, it is because some dogs just don’t tolerate things other than their food. Sure, canines, in general, have evolved through the centuries to become more tolerable in eating different kinds of food other than meat and flesh, but not all canines can properly digest nor consume the snacks that we would love to share with them.

A Caveat On Kiwis – You Might Like These In Kiwis, But The Same Doesn’t Apply To Your Dog

Kiwis have tough, outer skin that is also known as “roughage”. This part of a kiwi contains large amounts of insoluble fiber. One benefit it has for humans is that it stimulates the intestines once it passes through, thereby making food pass through hastily. However, large amounts of fiber in a dog’s diet would likely result in it getting an upset stomach or worse, diarrhea.

Although the skin of a kiwi is relatively safe to eat, provided that the fruit in question has been thoroughly washed, it is still a good practice to peel it off and remove it before feeding the kiwi to your dog.

Should Kiwis Be A Trick or Treat? The Answer Might Surprise You

The answer is A treat!

Kiwis should only be used as such, never as a substitute for pets s that are more nutritious for your pet.

Kiwis should not be used as an enticement for tricks also, since having a dependence on kw when being trained to do simple commands may seem cute and lovely the first time you do it with your pet, it is not exactly economical nor convenient when you have to go out of your way and buy a couple of kiwis when you have to train your dog to fetch or play dead.

In summation to the inquiry “Can dogs eat kiwi?” to which the answer is yes, kiwis provide lots of nutritional value for your dog’s diet. They contain lots of vitamins such as potassium, fiber, and Vitamin C, not to mention an overall taste of sweetness with a bit of tartness to them, which your pet  would surely love to eat.

But of course, caution needs to be exercised when feeding kiwi to your dog. Peeling off the skin and slicing the kiwi up into small, bite-sized pieces should be done before avoiding any choking incidents.
